Looking at it from a distance, it seems that so many groups' reliance on a 'TV product' really drags things down.
A televised show appears to be more of a vanity issue than a genuine cause to grow and improve. "Shoestring" productions only manage to look bad and turn off those few prospective customers that may actually see them. And the good, worthwhile productions are just too cost prohibitive with too few forums to even air the show in front of an audience that can make a real difference.
Someone with their head screwed on right, with more than a little business-sense and patience, should get a grass-roots group going. And when/if some solid momentum is acquired after time, only then should TV be a consideration.
