First, choose a base:

I choose a wrestler because Hercules is a wrestler. And they are big figures, less articulation, but can stand much better than the Marvel Legends figures. Also, this figure has a smile and not a crazy look or an angry look. I like to see a jovial Hercules.
First takes some black paint and some golden paint, acrylic paint and mix and fill in the beard and bring down the bangs. Then, go over the figure with a feathering of the paint, very lightly over the arms, chest, and legs to simulate the hair.
This does 2 things, makes the figures muscles more defined and look bigger and darken the figure to a more Greek look.
