I was on it for 2 months without a period when I discovered I was pregnant. Since I never had a period, I don't know how long it would have taken. Then I had the D&C to remove the dead pregnancy tissue. I started taking it right away, but it takes time (6-8 weeks) for pregnancy hormones to leave the system, so I wasn't expected to have a period right away. I guess I was taking it for another 2 months before I had a period. My tumor(s) are too small to show on the MRI, so I probably required a very low dose comparatively. You may be taking a larger dose, or maybe they will step you up until you have a high enough dose to get your periods back. I really do think the body gets used to it.
