I’m sorry to here about you difficulties. My situation has evolved I since I wrote that posing. I haven't checked the message board in a while. I found out I was pregnant 2 months after beginning the Dostinex, befor I ever had a period and I went off of the medication. Unfortunately, we lost the baby, but tests showed that it was a chromosomal defect and not related to my hormonal problems. Now I'm back on Dostinex. I just had my first regular period in years. My pregnancy and periods returning mean that the Dostinex is working. I think it really agrees with me, but it took some time to get used to it. I feel much better. I think getting back to a regular cycle is really important for balancing hormones. Do you menstruate?
I still have acne, but it seems like my skin is less oily than a few weeks ago. The doctors will not admit that the mood swings and acne are related to hormones, but I know they are. Unfortunately, my old Endocrinologist passed away very suddenly, but my new doctor is nice. She said that pain with sex is one of the first issues to show up, even before lactation. I think loss of sex drive is more linked to hormone levels – progesterone is important. Neither doctor said that excess hair was related, and they didn’t think I had it. Hair is related to PCOS. My old doctor said that if the Dostinex didn’t work, they would start some other medication for PCOS ( Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) It’s kind of strange that lots of people have the Pituitary adenomas, but only some are affected and mine didn’t show at all. It’s the same for PCOS- it doesn’t matter if cysts show up on the ovaries or not, you can still have the syndrome. It makes me think the tumors are not related, but I’m no doctor. Did tumors show up on your MRI?
As for depression, my old doctor was ready to put me on Zoloft, but I was sure that getting my hormones straightened out would do the trick, and I haven't had a panic attack since, but I was never hospitalized, so mine were probably less severe. I do feel like I haven't been depressed as much also. I wish you good luck an hope to hear how you are doing.
One piece of advice on the Dostinex – if it makes you very light headed like it does to me – take your time standing up and breath deeply an steadily if you get dizzy.
Take care,
