Hello all from Oz! I was diagnosed with a whopper prolactinoma way back in 1992/3 and am still here to talk about it! I have been managed successfully with medications that included bromocriptine and more recently dostinex. The tumour has shrunk nicely and sits in situ and lives goes on fairly nicely. Recent MRI revealed it may be taking a cystic form now so I'll have to wait and see about that. The thought of an operation doesn't excite me excessively I must say ....especially when you read some entries here!
In relation to the wierd behaviour reported ...how can we tell what its origin is?I went thru separation and divorce and illness diagnosis almost simultaneously ... and being the male I am found it easy to push it all into the back of my mind ...and try to function as normally as I could.
Good news was that my newfound hormonal status cranked up the sex drive and relationships that followed were fun in that regard. Not so good aspect was that my panic response ( fright v's flight stuff) became exaggerated under stress and I got into a gambling downward spiral for a while. Walked away from relationships too easily as well.
I have put a lot of this down to suppressed depression and lack of support in any useful counselling sense.
The whole experience has taught me to look after my body much better I ever did before and too live life more adventurously than I would have otherwise.
I have a really positive outlook to this experience and am sorry to read about the damage this condition has done to others...the quiet heroes in our world I reckon.
I think the medicos do a pretty good job with the clinical treatment of this condition, but Like us., are a tad at a loss to know too much about how our you/ people respond to it. I guess the possibilities are limtless
Cheers Dennis
