Posted by Brandie Dear Friend, After the birth of my daughter 9 years ago, many unusual symptoms surfaced and it seemed as if NO doctor could explain to me what was happening. My menstrual cycles stopped, body hair greatly decreased, suffered from terrible headaches with severe nausea, vomiting, fainting, blurry vision, and everything else that happens when you have a SEVERE headache. The would give me shots, tell me to relax, and get rest. NOTHING seemed to work. A couple of years after these symptoms surfaced, it seemed as if the headaches and side effects increased. It was hard to explain to the doctors that something was wrong. No one seem to believe me. It was terrible and scary. There were even doctors that said I would pretend to have headaches for the shot. It made me so sad. Did you feel this way, like no one understood? 5 years after symptoms began, I became dizzy, fainted and hit my head at work. My employer wanted me to go to the doctor and have a CAT scan done. I have had one done before and they said it was fine. So, after hesitation, I had one done. It showed that my pituitary region was enlarged. They then had me undergo a MRI which confirmed a tumor of the pituitary gland. The diagnosis of a pituitary tumor made all my symptoms make a lot of sense. My tumor was quite large and laying on my optic nerves, also. I was diagnosed on Feb. 21, 2003 and had surgery on March 11, 2003. The tumor was 2 inches long and noncancerous. THANK GOD! Like you, my life since surgery has not been the same. My neurosurgeon went through my upper gum/nasal cavity to get to the pituitary gland. Because the tumor was attached to it, they removed the whole thing. Since then, I also take Synthroid and DDAVP for diabetes inspedis and adrenal insuffiency. I took Dexamethasone for a very long time until I had Cushing Syndrome so bad. I still experience head pain and have tried many different pain medications. As you are aware, they have such terrible side effects. I just tried medications that are morphine based but the side effects were too much for me. My doctor had me try Methadone, NOT for abuse, but for pain control. Due to the lack of side effects, it works fine--sometimes. If I do suffer from severe pain, I do get a morphine shot. However that rarely happens. What do you do for pain control? It seems as if you are as frustrated as I am. This has been very difficult for me. I would love to hear from you and your journey. Until next time, take care!
