Posted by Wauchula Woman on 9/26/2006, 6:57 pm, in reply to "Thank God you....." There's not a day that goes by that I don't miss my grandma. That'll be the good part about dying, I'll get to be with her again. Hey Rhonda, have you thought about being her "sitter" at the nursing home? When my grandmother was in that nursing home, a lot of people paid to have "sitters" stick around and keep an eye on their loved ones. The CNA's did the hard stuff, the sitter was like a monitor who kept an eye on the staff and made sure they didn't let their loved ones lay in their own vomit for hours...stuff like that. I always thought I'd like to be a sitter. The sitter combs the person's hair, makes sure they aren't forgotten when it's meal time, just generally keeps an eye on the person when the CNA's are with other patients. So I mean, even if she goes to a nursing home, you might still be able to have a job that allows you to help care for her without all the heavy responsibilities. It's just a thought. I know you love her and promised to watch out for her. That's what I was basically doing for my grandmother. And it might help her transition a little easier into a nursing home setting to have a familiar face around. Take Care,

My grandma had one of those jerry chairs, they came in real handy. I used to take her and push her around outside the nursing home, she really liked that. I'd put her sunshades on her and off we'd go. It was heavy but it was worth it to get her out in some fresh air and sunshine. The nursing home she was in was a nice one, it had a big screened porch with a flower garden outside. My grandma always loved flowers and gardening, so even though she couldn't speak, she'd be smiling her lopside smile (her face was partially paralyzed) and she'd make noises that told me she liked being out there.
