The threads on here asking about the quality of the game are very interesting. If you look at them you will notice that eventually they all go back to the same thing....BATS. This my opinion: When advanced technology is introduced to any game it can work for the better or it can hurt said sport. Instant replay, clocks that count down "miliseconds" and yes even steroids have there place in sports. I've always said that if Jose Canseco was right and 85-90% of MLB players were on the "juice" in the late 80's and 90's then MY OPINION is that that constitutes a "level playing field". IN MY OPINION it's the same with bats. When the Ultra came out i first saw it at a tournament. A guy i knew had one and he was not a very good hitter before he got the Ultra. We were prepping to play the game after his and i watched him(in a back yard boogie)hit 4 "monster" shots with that Ultra. He still was a crappy hitter/fielder but that but was incredible!!! Plus around Cali at the time guys were shaving it and then when it got banned guys were shaving them, putting a Mizuno end cap on it and painting them to look like a Crush!!! It was crazy!!! So you had to make a choice. Face guys with those "hott" bats and get one of your own to compete with teams that had 12 in the dug out or playing 2 games and starting the bar b q by noon on Saturday!!! Technology when used correctly can enhance a sport. Technology when used wrong can hurt/kill the sport. Softball/baseball/olympic wrestling are unique in that the athletes are on a team but it's kinda an individual sport also so people have looked to "inhance" there game because unlike other sports a player is in the spotlight/batters box/mat/ring/octagon for all the world to see his failure eventhough he is on a "team" but can't hide under a helmet/mask. Besides comparing athletes of the past to athletes of today is futile. The MLB players of the 30's, 40's and parts of the 50's did not have to play against the best athletes of there day because of segregation. When ALL athletes were allowed to compete what happened? The game, no matter what game, completely changed!! Again, just my .02 cents and that and a dollar will get me something off the value menu.|
