Jim Burbrink's (Burdie) pitching performance at the 1995 USSSA World Series for Hague was incredible. He faced the #11 ranked team (D&D Thouroughbreads), the #2 Team (Lighthouse), the #1 team (Ritch/Superior), & the #3 team 3 times. In those games, he gave up an average of 13.5 runs. The defense made 3 errors in 6 games. One example was the 4th inning of the semi finals of the winners bracket. Ritch's had their 4, 5 & 6 hitters up: Larry Frideau, Darrel Beeler, & Doug Roberson. Frideau pops out to 3rd for the 1st out. Beeler follows up with an another pop out to 3rd. Finally, Roberson hits a pop up behind 3rd that our left fielder called off our 3rd baseman for the 3rd out. You could hear the fan's reaction of disbelief throughout the stadium Out of 21 outs, 19 were flyouts. He was named Oustanding Defensive Player for obvious reasons. No question it was a team win, but we all realized the impact Birdie had on other teams.|
