I attended DLS when it drew from Livermore to the bay bridge to Oakley.. we had approx 575 students.. our graduating class was under 140. |
They have almost doubled in size since then. But back then..most of our local high schools were of high quality..thatís changed a lot around DLS with the heavy immigration numbers and section 8 moving east into the better subburbs.
I donít know how those private schools you mentioned do it..but I know DLS has many students (not just players) on scholarship. I would guess close to 20% or DLS students get some form of financial support. Lord knows they hit up the alumni to help many times a year.
If I remember correctly, your initial post referred to lack of future students...
There are many factors on that issue, gentrification, a high nimber of our new population that doesnít value education as many did in my school days and..the big one... MUCH SMALLER FAMILY SIZE in the families that used to fill those catholic schools..I attended catholic schools for 12 years and I would gues the average family size of all of my friends was a little over four kids...maybe 4.5.
As I sit and type this up, my wife and I are wat bing the evening news and she just said..I want out of California.. the sad thing is..those feeling are being had by more the 50% living in our metro areas. And much of that over 50% are the haves..not the have nots.
