My first introduction to Usssa Worlds was 1996 even though i was just a sub on the team and got one AB I still count it.
I jumped on a "B" team that year in April and would get to play when the starters missed or if the wind was blowing in and the EH/C let me play so I got plenty of minutes to satisfy me.
Chased Nit's all over the west coast and mid west and finally got our berth labor day weekend in Carson City "How Ironic" losing in the if game to Bones and getting one of 4 hand me down berths.
Went to Tuscon Arizona home of the greatest strip club on the face of the earth "TD's" which I talked about in another story a month ago.
Usssa "B" Worlds was only 32 teams that year and we faced a North Carolina team who was pretty good. I think our team sort of puckered a little bit as for all of us it was the first time any of us had ever been to a world tourney at all and that's all levels.
After losing to the North Carolina team we faced a team from Minnesota and we saw a five man defense for the first time. Our team was foaming at the mouth and went on to boat race that Minnesota team by 25 butchering the hell out of the gaps until they went to a four man. that's when i got my token first at bat and went on to hit a 16 hopper through the wickets for my first hit.
We lost our next game to a team from Sarasota Florida and the rest is history. We drank 32oz beers till the wheels fell off that night at Sportspark in Tuscon and did the same the next day watching Thermco beat the Tribe to win B worlds.
I batted 1.000 on the field and 1.000 at the bar drinking probably a dozen 32ozers over the course of three days.
