Fillmore is a SF district with many HUD housing projects...two of which we service weekly.
The park I donated at is right next to a McDonald’s on Fillmore/Turk Street .. I know many/some of the “locals”, All of which are a little short in the cash department.. once a week I walk by... say hi and on occasion visit..this morning I sat on a bench with Sarah (a over 80 year old HUHUD housing resident.. she sits on the same bench almost every morning.
Last week I sat for ten to twenty minutes and visited with a 72 year old vet that has lived in the neighborhood (very depressed for SF) I got to know him and his life story.
Three weeks ago I also talked to a local that always sits in the same spot painting or better said... putting ink on white paper..I learned his story and we talked about him commishing a “painting” for me. It is still in negotiations$$$
A five dollar toy donated instead of paying an enry fee into a softball tourney has very limited value...
Oh...one more thing...that donation I made was to help pay for christmas trees for families..and YES..it was more then $5
