To me, the point adjustments are a way to increase the amount of teams participating in a tournament so that the tournament is able to be at least a little competitive.
Based on the message board, the Dudley has been struggling for a few years now and USSSA seems to be committed to maintaining this tournament in MN due to their great relationship with the TD. I have zero issue with this, but like the first poster stated, by basically double pointing a few tournaments, it sets up other tournaments to fail.
Call me bias, but I feel the TD in OK that has spent a lot of time bringing a conference Major to Oklahoma has been given horrible scheduling since the beginning of the tournament. Last season, the turn out was very good with 4 AA teams, and 5 A teams.... so the growth of this tournament was looking up.... How does USSSA work to continue to grow this tournament??? They sandwich it between two "double" point tournaments.
This is a recipe of disaster to be quite honest and I feel sorry for the TD since the growth of this great tournament is now hindered at USSSA's decision to place it between two doubles.. Dumb.
So how many more years is USSSA going to do everything they can to save the Dudley? Are they going to sacrifice a tournament that was showing growth to continue to save a declining tournament?
Crazy thing is that I grew up in Minnesota, so I am not dissing the tournament or TD, just USSSA's decision to basically starve the Tulsa Major to keep the Dudley on life support.
