As I posted here recently, because I work Friday nights, I record 'The Bone Jangler' and watch it on Saturday nights more or less around it's original airtime of 10:30PM. Last weekend I watched the newest show right after Svengoolie's latest. I thought I'd write about what I saw last weekend.
Last Saturday night I saw 2 outstanding horror movie shows hosted by 2 masters of the genre. First came the old master who turned in one of his best pieces of work since his earlier days as Son Of Svengoolie. Lots of Svensurround [finally] and a movie more likely to be seen on my current favorite show 'The Bone Jangler'. The old gags made to seem fresher because of things like darker lighting, and a larger set, as a longtime fan and viewer of both shows, I can't help but know that the young master's work inspires the old. Too bad I didn't think to record it but, the way the guy does repeats I'll have a copy soon enough.
Following 'Svengoolie' I popped my DVD of Jangler's latest 'The Screaming Skull' into the player. What followed was yet another example of Jangler's heartfelt, knowledgable hosting of a film made better by his cleverly subtle sound FX, and the chemsitry between he and Harmony. While there was no Nocturna and not quite enough of said sound FX, and as good as Sven's show was, the young master won out as he almost always does. Comparatively speaking, Svengoolie's show has the budget of a summer blockbuster but, 'The Bone Jangler' cast is tops where it counts and the editing clearly leads the horror host pack.
