'Bad Girls Go To Hell' is the sort of cinema that was prevalent in the sixties to mid-seventies but is non-existant nowadays. Leave it to Bone Jangler to celebrate both it and the nearly extinct drive-in experience. Even without the welcome assistance of Nocturna or the Coven, Jangler hit it out of the park with great pacing, and his usual high energy low-key delivery.
Following 'BGGTH' was the very likable Dr. Dreck and Moaner. Their movie, a British production of 'Jack The Ripper', like most of the movies I've seen these 2 host, suffred from a lack of pep until almost the very end. Grittier movies and more actual hosting would make these already good hosts even better.
The Horror Host Underground present 'The Giant Gila Monster' is the latest group offering from the HHU. It features a number of currently active hosts each with their own style, and varying degrees of talent. The movie soundtrack is heavily altered by appears to be a serious goosing up of a previously aired Bone Jangler presentation with the Jangler and Nocturna bits stripped away, new bookends shot, and several other hosts' bits sprinkled vigorously throughout. The intro pays respect to past masters, highlights the now, and ends with a look toward the future. Some of these current hosts were revealations to this viewer, while other established hosts seem to be a wee bit off their game. However the mixture lifts the whole production to a very satisfying height. That Jangler spearheads these group outings is a testament to his devotion to an underappreciated genre. One hopes that more of these specials are planned. I'm sure that they are and I look forward to seeing them.
