How do you utilize your band leadership (drum majors, section captains, etc.) throughout the school year? I utilize mine quite a bit during marching season, but not so much when it's over.
When Marching Season ends, my section leaders become logistics and sectionals techs. They are responsible for making sure the people in their sections have their music, replace lost parts, pencils, valve oil, etc. they also can and do take their section aside and work on problems when I need them to.
My drum majors are basically assistant directors most of the time. They will take sections to run through things, are usually involved in equipment, uniform, and library management, and help troubleshoot things that students can handle.
The more efficiently their section runs, the less work they have to do, so they try to coach weaker players enough so that they don’t have extra duties as assigned, lol.
If I have one student or a section that's having difficulty with a part in their song, so much that it would take call of class for me to fix, I have one of the leaders pull them out and work with them.
I also have them help with recruiting by bringing them to meet the younger bands and talk to them.
