Wasn't clear enough - I know they mostly have two, but the idea of three DM's on the sideline or even two on the 40s is not what they do. Not opposed to the traveling DM where needed (backfield, etc) but there need only be one conductor at a time. |
When I was marching corps, we had 2 drum majors. The head DM was on the 50, the other moved to wherever they were the most beneficial to the corps. In fact when I marched, 9 of the top 12 had two DMs...including all of the top 5.
Two is fine, but only one conducting no matter how many you have. This has always puzzled me. Everyone wants to be so much like DCI - how many do they have conducting? One. 50 yardline. Let them switch if needed, but only one conducting at a time.
What is your drum major to marcher ratio? I have 95 on the field and only one drum major. We span from 20 to 20 but not the whole time. I am looking to have 120 in band next year. I think it may be time to add another drum major, or maybe even 2.
How many drum majors is too many, or not enough?
