As I understand it, Avid bought the software, then decided to discontinue it. They fired/laid off the whole development team. Most of those developers were hired by Steinberg to create the new Dorico.
It's still missing a few things that should be no-brainers (like no built-in DS, DC, Coda symbols), but for my needs it's great. I have a small band program with odd instrumentation and do a LOT of re-writing parts. The parts look so much better out of the box, very few of the visual layout issues that I used to spend hours dealing with on Sibelius.
It's definitely worth trying out. I think they still have a free 30 day trial.
