Who are the players in the district office? Who's in charge on paper, but who really makes things happen? Who do I need to watch out for? Careful what you put in writing, some of that may need to be verbal. |
What are the procedures for purchasing?
What traditions are in place? Chants to the Fight Song, do the kids get 3rd quarter off, do you do Sleigh Ride every year at Christmas?
Historically, how hard have you pushed All-Region, S&E, etc? How did the kids do?
What trips have you taken recently, and how did they go?
What pieces have you played for the last few years? Most important for UIL, but other programs would be nice to know so I don't repeat what the seniors did freshman year. It would also give me a good idea of what the kids are capable of.
Calendars for band camp would be useful. How early do you start? How long are the days? What activities do you do?
Okay, Probably retiring at the end of the year. Have had a very successful program for many years.
I would like to know what kind of things would you want to know about a program coming in as the new guy? I am putting together a handbook with as much info as I can, to help the new guy transition better.
