In clarinet mouthpieces, you get what you pay for. |
If you want a clear, consistent, mature sound, you need a mouthpiece capable of making that sound.
As a solution, talk to your music store rep about buying refurb or used clarinet mouthpieces. You can sometimes get some used 5RVs for $40 or so.
Not that we had many to begin with when I got here, but I have a shortage of clarinets and a relatively giant class of 6th grade beginners. We're a small, low-SES 2A, so we provide most of the instruments for our kids. I need the best cheap clarinet mouthpiece. I'm not a clarinet player who really appreciates the nuance beyond "That sounds terrible" and "That sounds OK." I've used Debut in the past but have been "expectedly" underwhelmed by them.
