Have you tried waterboarding? lol JK. But seriously, do the boys want to sing? I've had students before that pretended that wanted to but did not try to sing the correct pitch on purpose. |
Make sure you use solfege. It is a proven way to help to teach pitch. However, it can take longer with some just like anything being learned - some students are slower. I've also had some success with having them hum the pitch. "Was your pitch higher or lower than mine?" - narrow it down until they get it right.
I am a band guy, teaching choir. I have had some success in the last three years first time doing this, but this year, I have at least 6 or7 students that are not able to match pitch at all. small choir, 17 students, and all five boys cannot match pitch!! The rest of my group sings fine. HELP!! I don't want the singers getting frustrated, and have some that achieved well at solo and ensemble in the past. Thanks
