We had good luck suspending them below the keyboards, under the resonance tubes. That way they pickup the desired sounds, without the extra noise from the players' incidental sounds, like talking, dutting, stick noise, or accidental bumps during the performance. |
To hold mics in place, we used paper towel tubes suspended from the far ends of the frame with string.
We also had good luck with wireless because we changed the batteries before every performance. That way we didn't have to worry about setting up and taking down wires within the limited setup and teardown time for contests.
That show had 5-7 keyboards: xylos, marimbas, and vibes.
What works best for you.
1. Type - Brand of microphone?
2. Placement on the keyboard?
