Some factors. |
1. The district doesn't care what XYZ ISD pays in stipends. They only care when compared to what the state sees as 'similar districts'. There is a list somewhere, and it doesn't always make sense.
2. "What additional thing are they going to take on to justify the raised stipend?" I know, our arguement is the raise is to cover what you are already doing, but the ISD doesn't see it that way.
3. When I was successful in getting ADs stipends raised, there were two things that tipped the scale. First, the AD stipend was half that of the head choir and orchestra directors, who did little to no outside of the school day stuff. I detailed our schedule (summer, etc.) and even minus football games we did more performances than they did. Didn't get them to the same level (and told them I that is not what I was after), but did get a raise for them. Second was when I after I lost a second person to a nearby district in three years. Similar programs and ISD pay scales, but significantly different stipends. That they could understand.
4. This has to come from the HD. You need to talk to them. Have more data than, "I want more money."
So I've heard of head band directors and head athletic coaches negotiating their contracts for salray increases.
Are there any Head directors who have actually helped their assistant with this?
Is this even in the realm of possibilities for assistants?
Does anyone have experience doing this as an assistant? Where did you start? How did you approach this?
Is there an HD willing to shed some light on this subject from their perspective?
Thank you for any thoughts, input, and/or advice!
