Keep in mind that every school and situation is different. Some people will think thatís a huge gap. But there are many things to consider such as: |
Eligibility- how many of your students have to be in tutorials 3 days a week instead of practice just to keep grades up
Pre-requisite abilities- how many students come into the program not at the correct playing level, now weíre going to expect them to move around a field
Expectations- how many of your students/parents arenít concerned with attendance or music memorization
In my situation most freshmen come into the program and have severe issues with time management and academic rigor. It takes that first year to train them and their parents how to keep their heads above water. Needless to say, I put many of them in alternate positions, that way I have flexibility if I need to send them to tutorials. Otherwise their parents would just pull them out the moment they started stressing between academics and learning how to march a spot.
What has been the largest gap in members in your band to number that you charted for? Not counting battery or pit.
