Have you thought of Admin? Band directors, like Coaches make great admin. A school staff would appreciate how organized and efficient band directors can be. You’d be surprised how good you’d be when given the support we sometimes don’t get in the bandhall.. for example a secretary, a counselor and their secretary... there is different after school and Friday responsibilities but usually me and the other admin coordinated so we shared responsibilities and no one admin was stuck w all the duties.. I was an AP for three yrs and enjoyed it.. back in the Band room because I wanted to be a Head Director.. The position was perfect for me, started a band program from scratch..my .02 cents worth.. almost forgot gotta get that principal certification.. I’m considering getting my supt certificate.. Good Luck! |
: After teaching band for 4 years, I decided to
: move out of the band hall. I taught 8th
: grade English for one year and it was the
: longest year of my life. I took every
: vacation day I possibly could that year
: (Between my saved state days and
: professional development days, I think I
: "skipped" more than 20 of the 180
: days). Back to band the next year.
: Now a "beginners only" position
: with no ensemble, UIL, Friday night bus
: rides, or marching band? Even with no
: stipend, I'd be all in!

: Hey all! Just a few more days!
: Here's the scoop:
: Ending 24th year
: 15th year at this school by myself
: 5 more years until retirement eligibility
: I'm getting tired of Friday nights and all
: that's associated with "steering the
: boat". My 5 year average is fair, but I
: am thinking about the possibility of moving
: out of the band hall to maybe a teaching
: position within our district after next year
: (youngest is a senior next year).
: Question; Have any of you thought about this
: and acted upon it? I'd almost entertain
: going and teaching beginners for less salary
: to stay within the band field, being part of
: a team of directors.
: Please....thoughts and advice gladly
: Thank you in advance!
