I have a music sorter from Wenger. It sits in the corner of my room, collects dust (among other things) and is useful about three weeks out of the year. I wish I could get rid of it, it's about $3k new, but I'm not allowed to sell things. |
If you have dedicated librarians who sort and file music on a daily or weekly basis, you don't need to keep piles of music out. Pull a skeleton (one of each part) of each song you perform and keep them in a manila folder. Copy from that. Put the manila folder and your score back in the RBC folder/box when you're done with the song. That way, next time you're ready to perform it, everything's right there to be used.
I store those manila folders in a file-folder milk crate, or if the originals are too big, in my legal-sized file cabinet next to my printer/copier. I also have skeleton sets of marching band music, sorted by instrument, in there, along with scale sheets, fingering charts, tuning charts, and copies of the UIL Rubrics.
