I use a few decent $10 towels and some large storage tubs from Target. One of those towels can double as your table cover or drum muffle, too, if there isn't one and you're used to it. If you get pricey, you can even get the tubs that have wheels on one end. Of course, at that point, they're basically coolers - and you have some of those already, I'll bet. |
Just wrap every instrument in a fluffy towel and put it in the tub. Plenty of protection and it's not weight-prohibitive.
If you get one of the really big tubs (more easily found at Home Depot) then you can even store your hardware in it. I have a 40" tub that holds every snare stand, cymbal stand, etc that we need at contest. It's heavy as all hell, but a few bungee cords and a luggage rack make it easy to move around.
