Like the previous post. I get in the 5th grade classrooms and show the videos from Be Part of the Band https://www.bepartofthemusic.org/bpotb/index.html |
Then I do a high energy, fun concert for the whole elementary a day or two before the 5th graders pick classes for 6th grade. This has worked for me. Good Luck!
: Our school now has so many elective choices
: that it's getting more challenging to
: convince kids that they should take
: beginning band. Specifically, we've noticed
: that we have a declining beginner girl
: population. I think this has more to do
: with having more socially acceptable
: opportunities for girls (ie. choir, theatre,
: art, cheer, dance). We also offer two
: technology/coding based electives,
: athletics, study hall, and a career explo
: course for 6th graders. Whew.
: We're a small, soon-to-be medium 2C school
: in the suburbs.
: What are your most successful or unique
: recruitment strategies? Is there anything
: specific that you do that you feel may
: inspire girls to join?
: Thanks for sharing!
