Re: Driving the bus

The 10hr driving rule and 15hr on duty rules are tricky when it comes to school buses and what counts. However... student and staff safety must be taken into consideration. I would suggest having a talk with your admin. I get a driver for anything that will keep us out past around 12:30 simply because I asked. In my situation, all of our drivers are also school employees working all day. This is how I worded it: The football team/ coaches have multiple drivers on staff. If one of them feels they are not able to complete the drive home, another can take over. In the band, I am the only driver available. If it comes down to where I do not feel safe driving, I do not have a back-up. It is not that I "can't" or "won't," but "what if..." In my case, a driver is paid to drive the longer trips, and I am the relief driver if he feels he cannot make the last of the trip. He is also a school employee that has worked all day. |
