Yes, you can....like you said, carefully. Make sure it doesn't move, because you're going to have put some elbow grease into it to enlarge the holes. Only make them large enough for the cord you are putting through them. |
I have 550 parachute cord (army surplus or walmart camping section) holding mine. It's very strong and will not rattle like the vinyl coats wire that some use (after it frays a bit).
