Thanks for the question! |
I know that Texas is a special place, and that Texas directors like to stick with folks who know the system.
I'll admit, I haven't written for a Texas group yet but that only means I haven't had the opportunity YET!
I have written for groups in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. I've had groups perform in BOA Regionals, at which they've received positive commentary and (in the cases where I knew adjudicators), I received positive feedback in personal conversations.
I also spend my summers on tour, teaching for the summer alongside Texas directors who do well, and have learned much of the design process. I've had a chance to see what's rewarded in UIL and what is ephemera.
In addition, I'm also currently going through the writing process with a drum corps show - yet another particular level/style/demand of writing styles.
Where I bring something extra to the table is that I've completed my MM in Theory/Comp, and I'm about halfway done with my DMA, also in Theory/Comp. My academic research interest, outside of composing, is drum corps/marching band show design. I've done research projects on the topic and have been invited to submit a presentation proposal on the topic.
For a director in need of a change, a new direction, I can help with the move!
Thanks again for asking!
