You are fully correct. |
Also consider this: If there is a qualified and certified person on a campus that is eligible to take the open position, the principal has no obligation, pending local school board policies, to interview outside candidates. My chosen name implies a lot. This is more of an issue with classroom teachers since there are so few band positions open when compared to other subjects. Believe me, things get very ugly outside of the band hall. We have a blessed position. Be grateful.
Earlier this week, my FAD posted a job opening in my district with TMEA. That position will not be disclosed.
I know my FAD knew of this opening since at least March. The person leaving is simply retiring. That person told me of their decision by December and had their retirement paperwork filed before the March Spring Break.
Why did my FAD wait so long? I honestly don't know.
However, I know my FAD well. He/She fully understands that there is a procedure in the hiring process and that he/she has to go through a bureaucratic mess to post it outside of the district. (HR posts on district's website.)
I believe as soon as the HR department approved of the position opening, my FAD posted the opening at TMEA. He/She is a professional. He/She has to wait on HR. HR has their own agenda and the FAD is held at their mercy. For the most part, I believe this issue is statewide. I could be wrong. I'll defer to the FADs who read this page to comment. They, after all, see this perspective better than I.
Welcome to government work. I love it, however, there is a mess of bureaucracy that is involved.
We work for children and music. I leave my frustrations at bureaucracy there because I see a bigger picture.
I understand there are a lot of frustrated college grads looking for work. I see you as our future. That is why I go over the board when I respond to posts like this. My goal is simply to educate you. There is a lot you still have to learn. (We all still have a lot to learn, but some of us have been around long enough to give you the knowledge of our experience.)
