In my first job (head director - 11 month contract), I got my first paycheck IN August because I began work in July. Since August was the first paycheck for that salary, then the 12th disbursement would be for the following July.
I left after that year for an assistant job (10 month contract). The problem was that I started work in August for my next job, which meant I did not get paid again until September.
So, it's not necessarily the contract itself, but rather, when you begin work and when you get your first paycheck from it.
I had never heard anybody talk about that prior to my experience, so that made it a rather difficult transition without having planned for it.
