I came here from another state. In my home state, band programs are in serious trouble, especially in schools 4A and smaller. Not because there is no interest in the program, not because there is poor instruction going on, but because these programs are spending obscene amounts of money and the districts, especially the small ones, are getting crushed by the financial burden and are saying "enough!"...even more so when the directors have difficulty justifying the expenditures. To add insult to injury, instead of reminding themselves that they aren't the Blue Devils, they have convinced that state's version of UIL to create subdivisions in each class to accommodate bands that are of "unusually small size for their classification".
