Yes, my kids had money, and we were within an hour of a couple different universities where they could have found a lesson teacher. None did. Without the infrastructure that the school provides to bring in lesson teachers, hardly anybody takes lessons. That aside, 30 minutes a week is nothing compared to the daily small group attention and divided classes that are possible in larger programs with multiple directors and space to spread out. There may be the few outlier kids who came up through a big public program before transferring in to a small charter/private school, but the kids who came up through those programs have a lot more in common with you than you think. My kids were somewhat successful in ATSSB but wouldn't stand a chance in the 5A/6A world.
ATSSB had a whole session at TMEA that year about whether to allow charters or not, and the overwhelming vote was to allow. If you want to try again, send it up through your Region.
