What I always do is add up all the students we see each day and show those numbers.
So if you have 200:
You see 200 before/after school
You see 200 during school
You might have a jazz band or 2 (20-40)
Maybe you also have applied music or theory.
I’m pretty sure they do this with athletes. For instance, if a student is in football that counts as a number. If they are also in baseball, that same student is counted as a number again. Also, discuss coach’s teaching numbers possibly. When coaches are figured into teaching allotments, you now have far fewer students per teacher. They teach 2 of 4 daily academic classes usually vs 3 of 4 for a traditional teacher. If they teach 2 sports but share kids, that kid gets counted twice. Also, in that sports period there might be 10+ coaches in that period. If you use that, the number of students per teacher goes WAY down. That’s why I think it is important to show that you too see kids twice a day as it should count toward your teaching allotments for band.
Then, create a chart with programs in the area showing number of students in each band, class, and total number of directors. I always sorted by whichever way makes us look like we are not as equal in that area.
