Re: Bias against military bands at smc
Thereís some schools that donít support a change to corps style. Iím at one of those schools. Iíd lose my job if I tried to change it. We have a 70 plus year tradition, and they donít want to see it change just to compete at the state level of UIL. Weíll keep going to SMC though. Itís a really fun trip and a great experience for our kids. I tell my students that once we are down there, itís a crap shoot. They may like us, they may not.. just enjoy the experience.
TIMES ARE CHANGING! You have to adapt to the modern show idea if you want to compete with others. It's nothing offensive. Rather, its the truth! I always wondered why military marching style in Texas is still around. Is it tradition or just director preference? But hey, if they were at state, kuddos to them.
Spring Hill got 2nd at their area against north lamar by only a little. They beat lcm, paris, and lumberton, all corps bands... At state having their best performance, no mistakes, amazing music, and perfect lines, got 17th place. They were behind all the bands they beat at area.
China springs got 20th at state despite having an amazing performance as well.
Why is there such a basis against military bands?
