Re: SMC Results
I think they are trying to make the point like with sports there is Div 1 and Div 2. There is a huge difference when it comes to enrollment.
6A- 2200- 6664 (Allen HS enrollment)
4A- 500-1150 and so on...
Many times, but not always, these larger schools have bigger staff and more budget that comes with the larger enrollment.
I'm not saying that is the answer but I have thought about the same thing. If they can further divide football into sub categories based off of enrollment why not for band.
I do know that only 6 of the 4A state qualifying bands are under 700 total enrollment. Which for football puts them in division 2.
What do you think "A" "2A" "3A" "4A" "5A" and "6A" are?
DIVIDE UP THE BANDS BY BAND SIZE/SCHOOL POPULATION! THAT WAY WE HAVE TWO SEPARATE CLASSIFICATIONS QUALIFYING FOR STATE. AND WE CAN FINALLY SEE BANDS IN FINALS THAT HAVE BEEN DOMINATED BY THE SAME DAMN DISTRICTS! NO OFFENSE TO THE DISTRICTS, THEY ARE FANTASTIC!
Doesn't football have 2 state winners per division? What if we had 2 state contests for each group, so 6 would make it from each Area? Only 3 per area per contest.
limit the number of bands from area to state? No matter how many groups attend your area contest, 3 go to state. Period. Were can lose the "our area sends more to state than any other" BS.
Yes, I'm aware that there will be some FANTASTIC bands that are left at home, but there are already fantastic bands that didn't even make area finals that would beat several bands at SMC from a couple of the weaker areas.
Looks like Area G bringing up the bottom yet again.
