Re: schools with no marching bands?
The previous BTW director didn't prioritize participating in UIL, so they hadn't gone in years. The new guy has had to basically rebuild the program from the ground up in that regard. They aren't world-beaters yet but I'd put them up against anyone.
As for budget, do you honestly think BTW lacks for a single thing they ask for (except for functioning elevators)? If the district doesn't provide it, a wealthy donor will, every time.
I don't know that you really want that job. It's still Dallas ISD. The funding is still very low. The band at Booker T is about as good as your average DFW burbs.
To be fair, I haven't heard the band in a few years, not since the current director's first year there. Maybe he's been able to do great things with the program.
