I am the HS assistant to a 37 year veteran director. He often jokes how he has a hard time keeping up with the trends of kids nowadays. Today before the top band came into 1st period we discussed that our main focus would be to read Salute to America's Finest for our upcoming Veteran's Day program. He then went out and wrote the day's agenda on the board. I was still in the office working on a kid's horn when I started to hear a lot of laughing and commotion out in the band hall. The director was trying to get the kids seated and kept asking "What's so funny?" I then saw the board. He likes to use abbreviations for pieces of music, so instead of writing Salute to America's Finest he wrote...
Salute A F
The look on his face was priceless when I went up to him and whispered what AF stood for. I've never seen him turn so red! Thank goodness my next move was to rewrite it to read Salute Am. Finest, because the principal walked in the door for a surprise visit about a minute later!
