This profession is mentally hard on most and most wont tell you that. I was in your shoes a few years ago when I changed jobs and lost my principalís support very early in the year. She knew that I knew that my first year in her district was a probationary contract and if she didnít like the way I parted my my hair, she could non-renew me. That info really set me up for terrible anxiety and depression, which I too had never experienced. I sought counseling and saw my regular doctor for medication. It helped me quite a bit and I didnít stay on them. Iíve recently got back on them but itís more hormonally related.
Get help. Talk to people. You are not alone.
Ok, so here's the deal.
I've been what I felt was mentally healthy for pretty much all my life. Never had any problems with depression or anything like that. I've always had some anxiety but its never been officially diagnosed.
Well, this school year is different.
My wife and I have already decided its our last year here. Its not the worst place, but its not for us. That being said, the struggles of this year are just really bringing me down.
A combination of work issues, personal issues, the trying and failing cycle of trying to be healthy - its all brought me to a place I've never been before.
Without going into too much detail, I feel I'm having some depression and maybe even some OCD.
For those of you that have experienced this, what is the first step to take? I don't know what kind of person to see - my doctor, a therapist, a psychiatrist... my wife and I agree its at a place where I need to see a professional.
Any help would be appreciated.
