Break time is the summer.
I teach middle school so this really isn't my issue. However, in the dark ages of the 1980s, I was in a high school band headed by a universally well known band director and his assistant the first year I was at this high school became a universally known as a FREAKINGLY AWESOME MARCHING BAND head band director who's high school band, which I was not ever a part of, won the state UIL Marching Championship many times in almost 3 decades.
Both had the same policy: the 3rd quarter was OFF. However, band members, other than officers visiting opponent band, were never allowed to leave the band area unless an adult chaperone was taking them to the restroom. We had to bring our own food if we wanted to eat and we were provided our prepurchased soda and a treat by our adult chaperone during 3rd quarter. (I love you Mrs. P!) We were never allowed to visit the concession stands or roam around the stadium. We stayed put. PERIOD
If I chose high school as my area, I would implement this same procedure, too. The kids need a break. Period.
I am curious how many of you allow your students to take off during the 3rd quarter of the game after halftime and return before 4th quarter, and how many do not? Curious about your reasoning either way and if you do, do you use it as an incentive for students during the week or what?
