Re: State marching contest
Live at the band hall; forget you have a life outside of band; if you have a family, kiss them goodbye and tell them you will return for Thanksgiving - briefly: because you will need to start planning for the next SMC after the Thanksgiving meal. If you have a spouse: pray that he/she is super understanding and that he/she doesn't divorce you.
What does an excellent band director has to do to take his/her band to the state marching contest? 5A.
My thoughts, great staff, kids that work hard, tremendous band parent support, front office support, everyone has a big part in it.
A place to rehearse, a perfect rehearsal schedule during the day and after school which includes lessons and sections, at least one tech in every section, instruments that work, and a good plan on how to address al these issues.
Pros, Colorguard uniforms, flags, excellent instructor, drum teacher for both battery and front ensemble.
A perfect amount of marchers, excellent drill writer and music. Drill must contain energy throughout where it be a ballad or a high energy moment. Beautiful band sound, good battery and pit, woodwind moment and same with brass. Several wind solo/ensemble feature.
Attend two pre-UIL festivals that are competitive.
And I am not sure what the price tag would be, please help. What are some of the things I am missing or what do I delete.
