Re: Carnegie Hall Performances
I am incapable of expressing my disagreement strongly enough with those who said that anyone can play at Carnegie. I find it to be a generalized statement that is not true of all those who have performed there. I had two groups that were selected to perform there in the early 2000ís for a festival that was called the National Adjudicator Festival. (Or something similar. Like I said it was the early 2000ís. ) We had to submit several recordings and fill out a lot of paperwork to be considered and it certainly felt like a major accomplishment to our entire community when we were notified of our selection. The first time we performed we played approximately 45 minutes, performed 5-6 selections and I was taken up into a private area after the performance where I got to visit with Donald Hunsberger, Frank L. Batista and Craig Kirchhoff to get feedback on the development of the group. It was one of the highlights of my career and the students who were part of it still talk about the entire experience when I see them. Maybe this opportunity doesnít exist in this form anymore, but I want to stress that there have been groups perform there that earned the right to be there.
