The answers you get here won’t mean anything. How this is done is a local decision. The state simply says that districts can exempt certain advanced level courses. Which courses are exempted and what qualifications the students have to meet to qualify for the exemptions is completely up to the district and varies greatly from district to district. My current district simply has a list of courses that are exempt. If a course is on that list it simply doesn’t count toward eligibility. No extra steps are necessary. My last district only allowed kids to waive one course per year and to do so they still had to have above a 60 and had to fill out a form and get it approved by the teacher, a parent, and the principal. The district I was in before that was somewhere between the two. You have to follow your local policy.
I have a student that failed an AP class (in the 60s). I am thinking of doing a waiver on the student. If you have done this before, how do you go about it, I know school districts and their approach will be different, but I want to ask in general how to do it before I get in trouble.
