Re: Tubas and Beards
For a couple of years I stopped playing regularly and allowed my beard to grow out very full. When I finally did pick my horn again I couldn't get a good seal around my entire embouchure and had a very airy tone. I now keep the mustache and soul patch trimmed to 1-2 mm and I sound fine.
Hello Yellow Boarders. This odd-sounding question is for all of my beard-wielding tuba friends out there: Do you notice a distinct difference in your tone quality when in full bearded glory vs. when you have shaved? And follow up question: how do you make sure you still get a good tone and even seal on the mouthpiece when your whiskers are in full growth? I am by no means a great tuba player, but I can get a good sound when I am clean-shaven. However, I always feel like I sound God-awful when I have my beard. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
