I don't play tuba well enough to know the difference, but it can definitely affect my flute playing. I can imagine it would do the same on tuba. As someone else said below, I trim the stache and the soul patch pretty close. I use a #2 guard on the clipper, and then trim even shorter right next to the lip line.
Hello Yellow Boarders. This odd-sounding question is for all of my beard-wielding tuba friends out there: Do you notice a distinct difference in your tone quality when in full bearded glory vs. when you have shaved? And follow up question: how do you make sure you still get a good tone and even seal on the mouthpiece when your whiskers are in full growth? I am by no means a great tuba player, but I can get a good sound when I am clean-shaven. However, I always feel like I sound God-awful when I have my beard. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
