WW guy here. I NEVER let my beginners do it themselves. I personally go around and put it in he student's mouth and the old rule of " less is more" is true. You can tell clarinet players all the "normal" stuff, but THEY ARE BEGINNERS. Take the mouthpiece, place it on the bottom lip and push toward the teeth, tell them to lower the top teeth til they rest on the mouthpiece, and then corners in. SIMPLE. Then blow. I do it over and over for at least 2 weeks until they can do it without any instructions. Then I have them hold the mouthpiece, bring it up and put it in the mouth / on the mouth. When they can insert it and play without any help, then I start having them play as a class. When you rush, bad habits form quickly. Usually flutes move faster than clarinets due to the reed / mouthpiece assembly. It's been 4 weeks and we are still on the mouthpieces and head joint. Just don't RUSH.
