King instruments tend to be built a bit like tanks. They're incredibly durable. Yamahas are a bit more fiddly, with slightly thinner metal and lower tolerances such as in the valve casing. They're higher quality horns, but they don't take a beating the same way the Kings do.
For marching instruments, you want an instrument that can get dropped off the truck, since it WILL happen at least once to every one of your horns. Do that with a Yamaha and you're looking at a multi-hundred dollar repair. Do that with most Kings and you're looking at a medium sized dent.
Thanks for the input. Why would you recommend the King over Yamaha? Is this horn a little on the heavy side?
My tendency is to go King but I want to be informed.
