Re: Fast Attendance Techniques?
I create stand cards, where their name is on both sides of the card. In Word set it to landscape mode, then at the bottom create a box and type their name into it. Then, copy the box at the top but turn the box 180 degrees so the name is upside down. That way when you fold it lengthwise across the middle on each side the name is right side up. Place the folded card over the top of the stand. The kid comes in, sees where their name is and sits there. I see their name from the podium. If there is a blank chair, all I have to do is see the name of the kid who should be sitting there. I do this in a class of 75 and roll takes me less than a minute. It also helps me learn their names much faster.
I have a class of 38 beginner trumpet players. Half of them split off with my co-teacher so we can get more accomplished with such a large class. How can I quickly and most efficiently take attendance? So far I've been having them all sit down and I call out their names but I want something faster so we can split either right away or very soon after the tardy bell.
Would love to have your suggestions!
